“My father is elderly and has a hard time getting about. Are there steps to the Cottage?” The entrance involves a walkway ending with 3 steps up to the deck/porch area and door. Once in the cottage, one step down to the bathroom and 3 steps up to the bedroom/kitchen area.
“Is there a grocery store nearby?” On the corner of Church St. and 28th St. is a family run corner store (Chuck’s). A produce store with fresh produce, dairy and dry goods is located on Church St. and 30th. A large chain grocery store, SAFEWAY, is located on Mission Street (5 blocks southeast) between 29th and 30th Streets. WHOLE FOODS Market is at 3950 24th Street, between Sanchez and Noe Streets (8 blocks northwest).
“Is there a local newspaper for Noe Valley?” Noe Valley has its own paper called the “The Noe Valley Voice” which is published monthly and can be picked up at local businesses. Check out their website at: www.noevalleyvoice.com
“How do I get the keys to the Cottage?” We will contact you before your arrival to make arrangements to pick up the keys.
“Where in San Francisco are you located?” San Francisco is 7 miles square and Noe Valley is located right in the center of the city. Easily accessible from Hwy 280 and Hwy 101. Noe Valley is between the Mission neighborhood to the east and the Castro neighborhood to the north.
“Is there maid service?” There is no daily maid service. We ask guests to tidy up after themselves. Extra linens and toiletries in the closet are provided for your needs. However, if you ever need anything you can call us.
“Do you provide breakfast?” Not in the real sense although ground coffee and cream/sugar are stocked. And, a complimentary $10 gift certificate for Martha & Bros. is provided; they’re located around the corner at 1551 Church at Duncan St. (www.marthabros.com) and they have a nice assortment of pastries, sandwiches, coffees, teas and juices plus WI-FI. In addition, a bottle of wine and chocolates are compliments of The San Francisco Garden Cottage.
“Is there a heater?” Yes, it’s a dependable wall gas heater located in the living area; it heats up quite nicely so you feel toasty & warm during colder times.
“Can I cook in the cottage?” Absolutely…there is a full size refrigerator/freezer, gas stove, microwave, toaster, coffee maker, pots/pans, dishes/utensils- everything you need to make it like home away from home.
“Where is the closest public transportation stop and what is the cost?” There are two convenient options:
BART (Bay Area Rapid Transit) for $1.75 (local within SF) is the underground subway which takes you through San Francisco, the East Bay, South to Daly City and the airport. You can catch it at 24th Street and Mission Street which takes about 15 minutes to walk to. Go to www.bart.gov/ for further details and to plan your route.

MUNI street car or bus for $2.00. Be sure to “hold on” to your transfer ticket as proof of purchase as you get on. Go to www.sfmuni.com for more details and to plan your route.. At 27th and Church, across from ERIC’S, the outbound MUNI “J Church” line which takes you downtown & to many connecting locations, past Dolores Park and all the way to the Ferry Building. In the other direction (on same side as ERIC’s) you can take the J Church line to Balboa Park. At Church and Market Streets past the Safeway, above ground, you can transfer to the MUNI “N Judah” line which goes to the Haight/Ashbury neighborhood to Ocean Beach. At Church and Market Streets on the underground, you can take the MUNI “L Taraval” line outbound to the Zoo & Ocean Beach or inbound to downtown SF. At 26th and Noe the MUNI #24 BUS takes you to downtown Noe Valley (24th and Castro), through the Castro neighborhood onto Divisadero Street and ends close to the Marina District; the opposite direction outbound takes you to the Bayview District. At 24th and Castro the MUNI #48 BUS takes you to Ocean Beach, outbound and to Potrero Hill, inbound.
“Is there private parking?” There is unrestricted street parking one block up on 28th Street passed Sanchez. And restricted parking on our block Monday- Friday 9am to 6pm.
“What is the story with the suns on the orange fence?” The suns are shining upon our yard and the Golden Gate Bridge. The color of the fence is “International Orange”, the color used on the Golden Gate Bridge and of course we love the sunshine in between the fog.
